The city of Grass Valley is the largest city in the western region of Nevada County, California. Home to the Empire Mine State Park which extracted which extracted 5.8 million ounces of gold before it closed in 1956.
Grass Valley is home to the Center for The Arts. Which is a world class performing arts center that features performers from Nevada County and throughout the world.
Grass Valley still holds on to its Cornish heritage, with events such as its annual Cornish Christmas and St Piran's Day celebrations.
North San Juan commonly referred to as " The Ridge" because it lies between the middle and sough forks of the Yuba River. The area is about 20 minutes north of Nevada City. North San Juan is an eclectic mix of old time locals, back to the land hippie types, artists and professionals who drive to town. The parcels are larger here, and prices tend to be more affordable than in Nevada City or Grass Valley.
Colfax sits a few miles outside the Tahoe National Forest as I-80 begins its climb into the Sierra's. Because of its location it is considered at high risk of wildfire.
